The Korean War was a military conflict between North Korea (supported by China and Russia) and South Korea (supported by UN forces primarily from the United States). It took place from 1950-1953.
38th Parallel: The line of latitude that separates North and South Korea, established at the end of World War II.
Armistice Agreement: An agreement signed in 1953 to end the Korean War. It was not a permanent peace treaty, but rather a ceasefire that is technically still in effect today.
Kim Il-sung: The first leader of North Korea from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994.
