Forced displacement refers to the involuntary or coerced movement of a person or people away from their home or region. This can occur due to various reasons including war, persecution, natural disasters etc.
Imagine you're playing a game on your phone and suddenly it shuts down and restarts - forcing you out without any warning. That's similar to forced displacement but on an incredibly more serious scale - individuals are abruptly uprooted from their homes and lives without any choice in the matter.
Refugees: People who have been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs): Individuals who have been forced to flee their homes but remain within their country's borders.
Ethnic Cleansing: The mass expulsion or killing of members from a targeted ethnic or religious group in certain geographic areas with the intent of making it ethnically homogeneous.
