British India refers to the regions of the Indian subcontinent which were directly governed by Britain from 1858 to 1947. It included modern-day India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
Think of British India as a large school where the principal (Britain) has direct control over all students (Indian regions). The principal sets rules, controls resources, and influences culture within the school.
Colonialism: This is a practice of domination involving the subjugation of one people to another. In this case, it was Britain dominating India.
Partition of India: This was the division of British India in 1947 into two independent dominions - Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan.
East India Company: A British company that played a significant role in establishing British rule in India before it was taken over by the Crown in 1858.
