Arab Spring

Definition

The Arab Spring refers to a series of anti-government protests, uprisings, and armed rebellions that spread across much of the Arab world in the early 2010s. It began in response to oppressive regimes and low living standards.

Analogy

Think of the Arab Spring as a sudden thunderstorm sweeping across a desert. Just like how a storm can change the landscape dramatically, these protests and uprisings drastically changed political landscapes in many countries.

Protest: A protest is an expression of bearing witness on behalf of an express cause by words or actions with regard to particular events, policies or situations.

Revolution: A revolution is a fundamental and relatively sudden change in political power and political organization which occurs when the population revolts against the government, typically due to perceived oppression (political, social, economic).

Regime Change: Regime change is the replacement of one government regime with another. This could be peaceful through constitutional means or violent through revolutionary action.
