Simple random sampling

Definition

Simple random sampling is a type of random sampling where each possible sample size has an equal chance of being selected. It ensures that every combination of individuals has an equal probability of being chosen.

Analogy

Imagine you have different colored balls in a box, and you want to select some balls without bias. You close your eyes, mix them up well, and pick out balls one by one until you have your desired number. This way, you have a simple random sample of balls.

Related terms
