Simple Random Samples

Definition

Simple random samples are subsets of individuals selected from a larger population in such a way that every individual has an equal chance of being chosen. They are commonly used in statistical studies to make generalizations about populations.

Analogy

Imagine you have different flavors of candies in separate jars. To select candies for taste testing, you close your eyes and randomly pick one candy from each jar without looking. This process ensures that each candy has an equal chance of being chosen, just like simple random samples ensure each individual has an equal chance of being selected for study.
