Reconquista

Definition

The Reconquista was a historical process in which Christian kingdoms gradually regained control over territories occupied by Muslim rulers on the Iberian Peninsula. It lasted for several centuries until 1492 when Granada fell to Catholic monarchs.

Analogy

Picture a game of chess where two players compete for control over different parts of the board. Each move brings them closer to capturing their opponent's pieces until one player finally claims victory.
