A patriarchal society is one in which men hold the majority of power and authority, making decisions and controlling resources.

Imagine a family where the father is the head of the household and makes all the important decisions, while the rest of the family follows his lead.

Patrilineal: This term refers to a system where descent and inheritance are traced through the male line.

Matriarchal: In contrast to patriarchal, a matriarchal society is one in which women hold most of the power and authority.

Gender roles: These are societal expectations about how individuals should behave based on their gender.
