Definition

These are relationships that consistently produce significant stress, anxiety, or discomfort. They can be with family members, friends, romantic partners, or coworkers.

Analogy

A stressful relationship is like walking on a tightrope over a pit of spikes. You're constantly in fear of falling (conflict), and it takes a lot of effort to maintain balance (peace).
