The somatosensory cortex is an area at front of parietal lobes that processes sensory input from various body areas.
The somatosensory cortex is like a switchboard operator. It receives incoming calls (sensations) from all over the body and directs them to the right department (brain area) for processing.
Postcentral Gyrus: This is where primary somatosensory cortex is located, responsible for processing bodily sensations.
Thalamus: A structure in middle of brain that relays sensory information to cerebral cortex.
Proprioception: The sense of relative position of one's own parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement.
