Similarity-Attraction Hypothesis

from class:

AP Psychology

Definition

The similarity-attraction hypothesis suggests that people are more likely to be attracted to others who are similar to themselves in terms of attitudes, beliefs, values, interests, and other characteristics. This theory proposes that the more similarities individuals share with each other, the greater their attraction will be.
