This refers to the ability of an organism, such as a human, to maintain its body temperature within certain boundaries, even when the surrounding temperature is very different.
Think of your body like a thermostat in your house. Just like how a thermostat adjusts the heating or cooling system to keep the house at a steady temperature, your body also adjusts its internal processes (like sweating or shivering) to keep your body temperature stable.
Homeostasis: The state of steady internal physical and chemical conditions maintained by living systems.
Thermoregulation: The process that allows the human body to maintain its core internal temperature.
Hypothalamus: A region of the forebrain below the thalamus that coordinates both the autonomic nervous system and the activity of the pituitary, controlling body temperature, thirst, hunger, and other homeostatic systems.
