Regression

Definition

Regression is a defense mechanism where an individual reverts to an earlier stage of development in response to stress or anxiety.

Analogy

Think of regression as hitting the reverse gear on your car. When faced with a stressful situation, instead of moving forward, you go back to behaviors from an earlier time when things felt safer or easier.
