A fetus is a stage in human development that follows the embryonic stage. It begins from the ninth week after fertilization until birth.
If we continue with our building analogy, think of a fetus as being at the construction phase. The blueprint has been laid out (the embryonic stage), and now everything is starting to take shape - walls are going up, rooms are being defined etc.
Placenta: An organ that develops in your uterus during pregnancy providing oxygen and nutrients to your growing baby while removing waste products from baby's blood.
Amniotic Fluid: The fluid surrounding a fetus within amnion serving as shock absorber protecting against physical harm and helping regulate temperature for fetus.
Umbilical Cord: A tube-like structure connecting fetus and mother, providing nourishment and oxygen to the fetus while removing waste.
