Effects of Labeling

Definition

The effects of labeling refer to how categorizing or naming someone can influence both how others perceive them and their own self-perception.

Analogy

Imagine getting a nickname at school like "clumsy." Even if you're not particularly clumsy, people might start treating you as if you are because of your label. You might even start acting more clumsily because you've internalized this label.
