Consciousness refers to our awareness of ourselves and our environment. It is a subjective experience of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions.
Think of consciousness like the director of a movie. The director is aware of all the scenes, characters, and dialogues happening in the movie just as our consciousness keeps us aware of our thoughts, surroundings, emotions etc.
Self-awareness: This is a higher level of consciousness where one recognizes oneself as an individual separate from others and the environment.
Subconscious: This refers to part of our consciousness that isn't currently in focal awareness but can influence our behavior and emotions.
Altered states of consciousness: These are conditions significantly different from normal waking consciousness such as sleep, hypnosis or drug-induced states.
