Client-centered therapy is a non-directive form of talk therapy developed by Carl Rogers that emphasizes understanding the client's experience from their perspective.
Imagine client-centered therapy as being like a GPS system. The therapist doesn't drive the car for you; instead, they help guide you based on where you say you want to go. They provide support and feedback but ultimately respect your autonomy in choosing your destination (goals).
Empathy: The ability to understand and share another person's emotions and experiences.
Unconditional Positive Regard: A concept developed by Carl Rogers referring to complete acceptance without judgment towards an individual’s thoughts and actions.
Congruence (Genuineness): In client-centered therapy, this refers to the therapist being authentic and transparent with their own feelings within the therapeutic relationship.
