Definition

The breathing reflex is an involuntary response that controls the rhythm of breathing and triggers inhalation and exhalation.

Analogy

Think of the breathing reflex like an automatic pilot in an airplane. It keeps everything running smoothly without you having to consciously think about it, just like how you don't have to constantly remind yourself to breathe.
