AVPD is characterized by extreme shyness, feelings of inadequacy, and sensitivity to rejection which leads to social isolation.
Think of someone with AVPD as a turtle. When they perceive any threat or potential for rejection, they retreat into their shell, isolating themselves from the outside world.

Sensitivity to Rejection: An extreme fear of experiencing a negative evaluation or rejection in social situations.
