A term used by Freud to describe a person who has fixated on the anal stage of development. They are typically overly tidy, punctual and respectful of authority due to an excessive need for self-control.
Imagine someone who always keeps their room spotless - not a single item out of place - because they feel uncomfortable otherwise. That's similar to how an anal retentive person might behave due to their fixation at the anal stage.
Fixation: In psychoanalytic theory, fixation refers to an individual being stuck in one stage of psychosexual development.
Defense Mechanisms: These are unconscious psychological strategies brought into play by various entities to cope with reality and maintain self-image.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): A chronic condition where a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over.
