Definition

A particle accelerator is a scientific instrument used to accelerate charged particles, such as protons or electrons, to high speeds. It uses electric fields and magnetic fields to propel particles and increase their energy.

Analogy

Think of a particle accelerator as a supercharged roller coaster for subatomic particles. Just like how roller coasters use loops and hills to speed up passengers, particle accelerators use electric and magnetic forces to boost particles' speed and energy.
