Definition

A closed system is a physical system that does not exchange matter with its surroundings, but can exchange energy.

Analogy

Imagine a sealed jar of cookies. The jar is closed, so no cookies can be added or taken out, but you can still feel the warmth of the freshly baked cookies inside.
