Melodic leaps refer to large intervals between two consecutive pitches in a melody. These intervals can be ascending or descending and add variety and interest to the melodic line.
Think of melodic leaps like jumping on a trampoline - instead of taking small steps, you're leaping from one point to another, creating excitement and energy in your movement.
Interval: The distance between two pitches. It can be measured by counting the number of letter names or steps between them.
Stepwise Motion: A melodic movement that consists of consecutive pitches that are adjacent (next to each other) in the musical scale.
Arpeggio: A broken chord where the notes are played one after another instead of simultaneously.
