Leading-tone seventh chords are four-note chords built on the seventh scale degree of a major or minor key. They consist of a diminished triad with an added minor seventh.
Think of leading-tone seventh chords as the "sneaky" chords in music. Just like how someone sneaks up behind you and surprises you, these chords create tension and lead strongly to the tonic chord.
Diminished Chord: A three-note chord made up of two minor thirds stacked on top of each other.
Half-diminished Chord: A four-note chord consisting of a diminished triad with an added minor seventh.
Tonic Chord: The chord built on the first scale degree, representing stability and resolution in a key.
