Imperfect Authentic Cadence

Definition

An Imperfect Authentic Cadence is similar to a Perfect Authentic Cadence but with one small difference - instead of ending on the tonic chord (I), it ends on another chord within the key, such as IV or vi.

Analogy

Think of an Imperfect Authentic Cadence like reaching your destination but stopping just short before fully settling in. You've arrived at your desired location, but there's still some unfinished business or loose ends to tie up.
