A cadential progression is a series of chords that create a sense of resolution or finality at the end of a musical phrase or section.
Imagine watching your favorite TV show. The cadential progression is like reaching the end of an episode where all loose ends are tied up, leaving you with a satisfying feeling before moving on to the next episode.
Authentic Cadence: A cadence where there is a strong resolution from V to I (or V7 to I) chord.
Plagal Cadence: A cadence where there is a resolution from IV to I chord, often referred to as "Amen" cadence.
Deceptive Cadence: A cadence where there is an unexpected resolution from V (or V7) chord to vi chord instead of I.
