Definition

Characterization refers to how an author develops and portrays characters in a literary work. It involves describing their physical appearance, revealing their thoughts and feelings, and showing their actions and interactions with others.

Analogy

Imagine characterization as painting a portrait. Just as an artist carefully chooses colors, brushstrokes, and details to bring out the personality and essence of their subject on canvas, an author uses words and descriptions to create vivid characters in literature.
