Introduction

Definition

The introduction is the opening section of an essay or speech that provides background information, sets the tone, and presents the main argument or thesis statement.

Analogy

Think of the introduction as a movie trailer. Just like a trailer gives you a sneak peek into what the movie is about and gets you excited to watch it, the introduction grabs your attention and gives you a preview of what to expect in the essay.
