Kōzui (洪水)

Definition

Kōzui refers to a flood, which occurs when water overflows onto normally dry land due to heavy rainfall, melting snow, or dam failure.

Analogy

Picture yourself walking down the street after a heavy rainstorm. Suddenly, you see water rushing down the road like it's turned into a river. That's what a flood looks like!
