恵方巻き, also known as Ehomaki, is a type of sushi roll eaten on Setsubun in Japan. It is believed that eating this long sushi roll without cutting it brings good luck for the year ahead.
Think of 恵方巻き as a delicious fortune cookie in sushi form. Just like how you crack open a fortune cookie to reveal your fortune, eating an uncut 恵方巻き reveals your good luck for the year.
節分 (せつぶん): Refers to the traditional Japanese festival held on February 3rd or 4th, which includes activities such as bean throwing and eating 恵方巻き.
寿司 (すし): Sushi! This term represents various types of Japanese cuisine consisting of vinegared rice combined with seafood, vegetables, or other ingredients.
幸福 (こうふく): Means "happiness" or "good fortune," which is what people hope to attract by eating 恵方巻き.
