The Republican Party, also known as the GOP (Grand Old Party), is one of the two major political parties in the United States. It traditionally supports a platform of lower taxes, free market capitalism, strong national defense, gun rights, deregulation and restrictions on labor unions.
Think of Republicans like a strict parent who believes in tough love. They want you to stand on your own two feet (free market capitalism), protect your home (strong national defense), and have fewer rules to follow (deregulation).
Conservatism: A political philosophy promoting traditional social institutions and values. It's often associated with the Republican party.
Libertarianism: A political philosophy that advocates for minimal government intervention in personal and economic liberties. Some Republicans lean towards this ideology.
Reaganomics: Economic policies promoted by U.S President Ronald Reagan during the 1980s; these policies are commonly associated with supply-side economics, referred to as trickle-down economics or voodoo economics by opponents, and free-market economics by advocates.
