President Pro Tempore

Definition

The President Pro Tempore is a constitutionally recognized officer of the Senate who presides over the chamber in the absence of the Vice President.

Analogy

Think of the President Pro Tempore as a substitute teacher. When your regular teacher (the Vice President) isn't there, they step in to keep things running smoothly.
