Judicial rulings are decisions made by judges in court cases which establish legal precedents and interpret laws.
Imagine judicial rulings as referees' decisions in a basketball game. They interpret and enforce rules during play (laws), their calls can change how future games are played (precedent), and they ensure fairness on court (justice).
Stare Decisis: Latin term meaning "to stand by things decided." In court rulings, it means past decisions should guide future ones.
Judicial Review: The power of courts to declare laws unconstitutional.
Legal Precedent: A principle established in a previous case that is either binding on or persuasive for a court when deciding subsequent cases with similar issues.
