Definition

The First Amendment protects several basic freedoms in the United States including freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, the right to assemble, and the right to petition the government.

Analogy

Imagine you're at a party where everyone can wear what they want (freedom of expression), say what they think (freedom of speech), discuss any topic (freedom of press), invite their friends (right to assemble) and suggest changes for future parties (right to petition). That's what it's like living under protection of First Amendment!
