Census

Definition

The census is an official count or survey of a population, typically recording various details about individuals, conducted every 10 years in the United States.

Analogy

Imagine you're hosting a big party and need to know how much food and drinks to prepare. You'd ask everyone coming (the population) for their preferences (details). That's essentially what a census does but on a national scale!
