The essential qualities or features that define a democratic system, such as popular sovereignty (power rests with the people), political equality (equal voting rights), and protection of individual rights.
Imagine building a house with different rooms. Each room represents one characteristic of democracy - popular sovereignty is the foundation, political equality is the walls, and protection of individual rights is the roof. Without any one of these characteristics, the house would not be complete.
Separation of Powers: Dividing governmental powers among different branches (executive, legislative, judicial) to prevent concentration of power.
Pluralism: A diverse society where multiple groups with different interests coexist peacefully and have equal opportunities to participate in politics.
Majority Rule with Minority Rights: Decisions are made by majority vote but must respect the rights and interests of minority groups.
