Definition
The overall rate of a reaction represents how quickly reactants are consumed or products are formed over time. It gives us information about the speed at which a reaction occurs.
A reaction mechanism describes all individual steps involved in a complex chemical reaction, including any intermediate species formed along the way.
Rate-Determining Step (RDS): The rate-determining step is often referred to as the slowest step in a multi-step chemical reaction. It determines the overall rate of the entire process.
