Sodium chloride, commonly known as table salt, is an ionic compound with equal parts of sodium and chloride ions.
Imagine NaCl as two best friends at a party - Sodium (Na) and Chloride (Cl). They always come together and are inseparable at any event they attend!
Ionic Compound: A chemical compound made up of ions held together by electrostatic forces termed ionic bonding. Like how Sodium and Chloride stick together to form NaCl.
Ions: An atom or molecule with a net electric charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons. Like Sodium (Na+) and Chloride (Cl-) in NaCl.
Electrostatic Forces: Forces between charged particles such as ions; they hold ions together in ionic compounds.
