Molarity (M)

Definition

Molarity is a measure of the concentration of a solute in a solution, or of any chemical species, in terms of amount of substance in a given volume. It is defined as the number of moles of solute per liter of solution.

Analogy

Think about making lemonade. If you add one scoop of lemonade powder to one liter of water, that's like having 1 mole per liter - or 1 molar (1M) solution. If you add two scoops to the same amount of water, it becomes more concentrated - like a 2M solution.
