Hydronium Ions

Definition

Hydronium ions are formed when an acid donates proton(s) to water molecules. They are represented as H3O+.

Analogy

Consider hydronium ions as the VIP guests at a water party. When an acid (the event organizer) arrives, it gives out special passes (protons) to some water molecules, turning them into VIPs (hydronium ions).
