This is when a substance, usually known as base, attracts or accepts hydrogen ions from another substance.
Imagine you're at school and forgot your lunch. Your friend has an extra sandwich and offers it to you. In this scenario, you're like the base attracting the extra sandwich (the H+ ion) from your friend.
Base: A chemical species that donates electrons or hydroxide ions or that accepts protons.
Proton Acceptor: Another term for bases because they can accept protons (H+ ions).
Bronsted-Lowry Base: Named after two scientists who defined bases as substances that accept hydrogen ions in reactions.
