Galvanic Cell

Definition

A galvanic cell, also known as voltaic cell, generates electricity by spontaneous redox reactions taking place within it.

A device that connects two half-cells of an electrochemical cell, allowing ions to flow and maintain charge neutrality.

Electrolyte:

A substance that conducts electricity by the movement of ions, present in each half-cell of a galvanic cell.

Oxidation/Reduction: Oxidation refers to loss of electrons while reduction refers to gain of electrons; these reactions occur at anode and cathode respectively in a galvanic cell.
