Fast Equilibrium

Definition

Fast equilibrium is a state of chemical reaction where the forward and reverse reactions occur very quickly, and the system reaches equilibrium almost instantly.

Analogy

Think of fast equilibrium as a game of musical chairs with super-fast music. As soon as the music starts, it stops again, and everyone has found a chair to sit on. The game (or reaction) has reached its equilibrium state almost immediately.

Related terms

Slow Equilibrium: This refers to a state in which the forward and reverse reactions occur slowly, taking longer for the system to reach equilibrium.

Rate Law: It expresses how the rate of reaction depends on concentrations of reactants.

Catalyst: A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change.
