Definition

A double bond involves four bonding electrons between two atoms rather than two as found in single covalent bonds.

Analogy

Imagine two people holding hands - this represents single bond. Now imagine the same two people holding hands and also linking arms - this represents a double bond. It's a stronger connection between the two.
