The backward rate is the speed at which products revert back into reactants in a reversible chemical reaction.
Reversible Reaction: A chemical reaction where the reactants form products that, in turn, react together to give the reactants back.
Le Chatelier's Principle: The principle that if a system in equilibrium is disturbed by changes in determining factors, such as temperature, pressure, and concentration of components, the system will shift its equilibrium position so as to counteract the effect of the disturbance.
Endothermic Reaction: A process or reaction in which the system absorbs energy from its surroundings; usually, but not always, in the form of heat.
