According to Arrhenius, an acid is any substance that when dissolved in water increases the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+).

Analogy

Imagine acids as salty snacks at your party. Just as adding more salty snacks makes your party saltier, adding more acid into water makes it have more H+ ions.
