The substitution method is an approach used to solve systems of equations by replacing one variable with an expression involving another variable. This allows us to simplify the system and find solutions for both variables.
Imagine you have two friends who always hang out together. If one friend cannot make it to a party, you can substitute them with the other friend. Similarly, in the substitution method, we replace one variable with an expression involving another variable to simplify and solve the system of equations.
Elimination method: A technique for solving systems of equations by adding or subtracting equations to eliminate one variable.
Cramer's Rule: A method for solving systems of linear equations using determinants.
Consistent system: A system of equations that has at least one solution.
