Definition

An essential discontinuity occurs when there is no limit for the value of a function as it approaches a particular point, resulting in either infinite or undefined behavior.

Analogy

Imagine trying to divide something into smaller and smaller pieces, but you keep getting infinitely smaller pieces without ever reaching zero size.
