Heresy refers to beliefs or opinions that go against established religious teachings or doctrines. It is considered a serious offense within religious communities and often leads to excommunication or persecution.
Think of heresy as going against the rules in a board game. If everyone agrees on how to play, but one person starts making up their own rules, they would be accused of heresy because they're not following the agreed-upon guidelines.
Inquisition: An official investigation conducted by religious authorities to identify and suppress heretical beliefs.
Council of Trent: A meeting held by the Catholic Church in response to the Protestant Reformation, aimed at addressing heresies and reaffirming traditional teachings.
Galileo Galilei: An Italian scientist who was accused of heresy for supporting heliocentrism (the idea that Earth revolves around the sun) instead of geocentrism (the belief that Earth is at the center).
