Definition

The tunica externa is the outermost layer of a blood vessel, composed primarily of collagen fibers and elastic tissue that provide structural support and flexibility. It also contains nerves and, in larger vessels, tiny blood vessels called vasa vasorum that nourish the vessel wall.
